Frequently asked questions
Clarity before engagement.
These answers explain Ruchi Bindra’s practice areas, credentials, engagement process and jurisdictional scope. She works from Calgary and Dubai, with admission in Alberta and an initial qualification in India. Website enquiries are preliminary: a solicitor-client relationship begins only after the required checks, agreement on scope and confirmation of engagement.
Before we begin
Where is Ruchi qualified to practise?
Ruchi Bindra is a member of the Alberta Bar (Barrister & Solicitor) and first qualified as an Advocate in India. Advice on the laws of other jurisdictions, including the UAE and the United States, is provided in coordination with locally licensed counsel where required.
Where is the practice based?
Ruchi is based in Calgary and Dubai. Please use the contact page to discuss a matter and arrange a suitable way to meet.
What does ‘the lawyer in the build room’ mean?
It describes counsel involved while a product or venture is taking shape: reviewing architecture, tracing data flows and translating legal duties into decisions, documents and controls.
Which organisations does Ruchi work with?
Her practice includes precision health, genomics, healthcare, enterprise AI, data infrastructure, legal technology, sports and performance health, wealth management, real estate and technology startups.
What is embedded counsel?
An ongoing legal engagement close to the organisation’s operating decisions. The scope, availability, responsibilities and terms are agreed for the particular relationship.
Can I engage Ruchi for a defined project?
Yes. Project work can cover governance architecture, enterprise policies, privacy or AI programs, transaction documents, and board or investor readiness. The precise scope is agreed before work begins.
What does an AI governance engagement produce?
Depending on scope, it may produce an obligation map, enterprise policies, a governed-architecture framework, oversight responsibilities and an evidence plan. The work is tailored to the actual system and use case.
What are the IAPP credentials?
Ruchi holds AIGP, CIPP/E, CIPP/C, CIPP/US and CIPM. They address AI governance, privacy law in Europe, Canada and the United States, and privacy program management. They are professional credentials, not additional bar admissions.
Can you support UAE and US-related matters?
Yes, through cross-border regulatory strategy, governance and privacy or AI-readiness work. This site does not present Ruchi as a locally licensed UAE or US attorney. Local-law advice is coordinated with appropriately licensed counsel where required.
Do you work with technical teams?
Yes. Ruchi reviews architecture and data flows with engineers and product teams. She works as counsel with technical literacy and does not represent herself as an engineer.
What should I include in an initial enquiry?
Provide your name, organisation, country and a brief, non-confidential outline of the matter. Do not send sensitive personal information, privileged material, detailed evidence or documents through the initial form.
Does sending an enquiry create a solicitor-client relationship?
No. Website use, an enquiry or an initial response does not by itself create a solicitor-client relationship. A matter must be formally accepted and the engagement terms agreed.
How are fees and scope agreed?
They are discussed in relation to the proposed work and recorded in the engagement terms. The website does not quote prices or promise a free consultation.
Can I enquire about a speaking engagement?
Yes. Proposed formats include keynotes, panels, workshops and fireside conversations on AI governance, health data, sovereignty and cross-border technology. Use the speaking page to share the audience, topic and format without confidential details.
What is Ruchi’s role at Ethics.legal?
Ruchi Bindra is Co-founder of Ethics.legal, with Ethics FZ LLC in Dubai and Ethics Inc in Canada.
